Inventory Management Specialist

Major duties include but are not limited to:
Manages and controls an assigned class of expendable material for a VA HCS and supported catchment area. Services as subject matter expert to all services and service lines. Acts as a central point of contact for the coordination of commodity support and the resolution of logistics problems across organizational lines. Makes decisions and commitments for the medical center on medical/surgical supplies that materially affect the ability to provide medical care to Veterans. Implements best practices, principles, tools and concepts to evaluate and improve supply system performance. Implements federal and agency programs for the return and re-utilization of medical supplies. Serves as the primary responder to the VA National Center for Patient Safety Recall Office for their area of responsibility Work Schedule:

Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-5) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:

Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one full year of graduate level education, or, superior academic achievement. OR, Combination:
Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond six months of Graduate Level education. GS-9 Specialized
Experience:
You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-7) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
apply inventory principles, methodologies, and concepts to determine need to intervene in the supply system in response to fluctuations in rates of usage, cost, availability for established suppliers, alternative sources of supply, and other similar conditions; forecast short- and long-range inventory needs, considering changes in all program requirements; research alternative sources for procurement; conduct market research on product pricing and performance; authorize changes in expenditure and stock levels based on usage requirements and budgeting considerations; conduct quantitative analysis of historical usage patterns for opportunities for potential cost savings, efficiencies, and process improvements; make decisions and commitments on mission critical supplies. Physical Requirements:
Work is normally accomplished in an office setting; however, due to the nature of the position and duties, may be called upon to assist in the receipt, storage and distribution of various supplies, primarily consisting of lifting light boxes generally less than 40 pounds, utilizing appropriate material handing devices, and placing items on shelves or carrying them elsewhere on station or within the catchment area. Must maintain applicable training and licensing to operate assigned equipment. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
