Medical Technician - Phlebotomy

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Draws blood from medical center inpatients and outpatients for requested laboratory tests; Performs blood-drawing duties with dignity and respect towards the patient; Adheres to safety, infection control and universal precautions always while drawing blood; Determines proper site of venipuncture pending upon patient status and condition; Assists in teaching laboratory and medical center personnel and students theoretical and practical aspects of phlebotomy, specimen collection, and specimen requirements; Verifies sample collection, patient identification, and sample transport requirements for all laboratory tests; Processes all specimens according to strict guidelines to assure specimen integrity; Provides maintenance and operation of pre-automation instrumentation to process incoming specimens; Uses this instrument to archive all blood samples and to retrieve any samples that need additional testing; Uses and performs preventative maintenance on laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, refrigerators, freezers, and eyewash stations; Assists Medical Technologists in other areas of the laboratory by loading instruments, running the pre-automation instrumentation, performing occult blood testing, and manually filling out reference laboratory requisitions; Performs other related duties as assigned. The part-time position is 20 hours/week. The salary listed represents full-time employment and will be pro-rated based on the actual number of hours worked each pay-period. Likewise, benefits and time-off accrual will also be prorated and based on your part-time work schedule. Designated Drug-Testing Position:
Applicants tentatively selected for VA employment in a testing designated position are subject to urinalysis to screen for illegal drug use prior to appointment. English Language Proficiency:

Experience:
Applicants must possess (6) months of general experience and (6) months of specialized experience which equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of this position. General Experience is:
(1) Any type of work that demonstrates the applicant's ability to perform the work of the position, or (2) experience that provided a familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the occupation. Specialized experience includes:
(a) Technical medical laboratory support work such as performing laboratory tests and examinations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and preparing reports of findings or (b) technical support work in a closely related field, e.g., biological laboratory technician work that required application of the methods and techniques for the position to be filled. NOTE:
Your experience must be fully documented in your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. OR SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required):
Successful completion of (a) an associate - degree course of study of which the 2nd year of the 2-year program included successful completion of a training course of approximately a year's duration in a certified laboratory assistant school approved by a nationally recognized accrediting agency; (b) 1 year of study that included 6 semester hours in chemistry and/or the biological sciences, plus successful completion of a full-time training course of approximately a year's duration in a medical or clinical laboratory assistant (or technician) school that included instruction in chemistry, hematology, blood banking, and microbiology (including serology) and that, in addition, included supervised laboratory practice incident to the diagnostic process and the treatment of patients; or (c) 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours of chemistry and/or biological science course work that must have been directly related to the specialization of the position to be filled. OR COMBINING EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Transcript Required):
Combination of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. The education portion must include courses directly related to the work of the Medical Technician position. This education must have been obtained in an accredited college or university. NOTE:

The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
