The Athletic Training (AT) Program is designed to prepare students to be eligible for certification by the Board of Certification. The program merges a rigorous academic discipline with a variety of clinical experience opportunities. The program utilizes a holistic approach in developing multi-dimensional healthcare professionals and servant-leaders within the context of a Christian liberal-arts environment. Responsibilities and duties:
Reporting to the Athletic Training Program Director and Health Sciences Department Chair, this position primarily includes teaching undergraduate courses within the athletic training or health sciences curriculum and coordination of clinical education experiences.
The standard teaching load is spread over the fall and spring and may include a Jan term course. Courses will be assigned by the Program Director based on experience and AT program needs, and may include a combination of: Emergency Response, Therapeutic Rehabilitation, Medical Issues in Athletic Training, Clinical Experience, Physical Examination of the Upper Extremity, or others. Load may also include administrative release for other tasks related to the AT program as assigned.
The Clinical Education Coordinator (CEC) is responsible for the coordination of athletic training clinical experiences and acting as a liaison between the AT Program and affiliated clinical sites. Specific duties are outlined below.
Coordinates clinical experiences and clinical courses, including:
Maintaining documentation related to clinical experiences
Developing curriculum and objectives for clinical experience courses
Assigning students to clinical sites in coordination with the Program Director
Conducting and documenting regular site visits and preceptor training
Evaluation of clinical competencies
Develops relationships with new clinical sites to provide a range of clinical experience opportunities.
Assists the Program Director in maintaining compliance with CAATE accreditation standards
Other duties as assigned
The faculty member is expected to participate in AT program, departmental and university-wide activities, including assemblies, advising, development days, and faculty governance. The faculty member will participate in athletic training professional activities and maintain currency in field of athletic training by engaging in routine scholarly activity and continuing education.
Qualifications, Skills and Abilities:
Doctoral degree in Athletic Training or related field (ABD considered with anticipated completion by start date).
Certified as an athletic trainer by the Board of Certification (BOC).
Washington State Athletic Training Licensure or eligible prior to start.
Instructor certification for First Aid and CPR courses (or willing to obtain prior to start).
Previous instructional and preceptor experience within an accredited AT program desired.
Demonstrated effectiveness or potential in college level teaching desired.
Clinical athletic training experience highly valued.
Effective communication skills desired.
The ability to meet the physical requirements of the position (with or without accommodation), including the ability to sit, bend, stoop, walk and stand for extended periods of time; the ability to lift and carry heavy objects (not usually more than 50lbs); the ability to instruct and perform athletic training patient care skills; and the ability to be mobile across campus.
